Ways To Change Something About Yourself

As the saying goes, “The only thing that’s constant is change”. Indeed. Friends come and go, money value fluctuates, and your body ages. However, one thing is for sure – there will be moments that would motivate you to change something in your life or in yourself. You can call them change triggers, but some philosophers call them ruptures.

A rupture is a sudden break in your life or routine that takes you out of your comfort zone. These ruptures may be small ones, like a rude joke about your weight, or big ones, like the death of a loved one. Whatever the rupture’s size is, it’s definitely a big deal to you. It won’t affect you that much if it wasn’t that important. It affects you, whether you like it or not, and you need to do something about it. And usually, you deal with it through change.

People have different ways of coping or making changes in their lives. It all depends on their motivation or inspiration to change. You’re no different. Whatever the reason is for the change, it all starts with self assessment. This is healthy because it means you realize and acknowledge the fact that there’s something wrong and that there’s room for improvement.

How To Change Something About Yourself

Physical Change

You think you look old and dreary? So do something about it! Go to the salon and ask for a makeover. You think you’re too fat? Then start eating healthy and working out. You can’t just sigh over comments about your bulging belly. Yes it sucks, but crying about it while eating ice cream won’t help. Get up and start moving. Dance if you want to. Buy yourself some new clothes. Ask some fashionable friends to go shopping with you. Allot time for yourself and not just for others. You deserve it.

Emotional Change

Emotions are undeniable. As much as you try to avoid them, they’re there whether good or bad. The change that you need to do concerning these emotions is in dealing with them. Try to ask the people around you on what annoying trait you have. Keep an open mind when doing this. Once you know what’s annoying in you, try to address the root cause. There’s no point in coming up with solutions when you don’t know or you deny the cause. If people are annoyed by your temper, then know why the quick temper in the first place. Don’t blame others. Dig deep. How you see yourself plays a major role.

Spiritual Change

For some, spiritual change is the best way of coping with loss or grief. People become more in tune with their spirituality. There’s also a sudden shift in their priorities. Survivors of natural disasters learn how to pray more. They also become more thankful for life itself, despite the presence of superficial problems like the lack of money. For them, the new lease in life is enough reason to live it to the fullest. They find meaning in their existence. So what’s in it for you? Don’t wait for something tragic to happen before you make some changes in your spiritual life. Start now.

Social Change

Your friends invite you for a night out but you immediately think of an excuse not to go. Or your late night parties make you miss important family occasions. Either way, it’s social suicide. The key here is balance. Never allow your life to revolve around just one thing.Find diversity and balance. You will be amazed on how people would get drawn to the new you.
